It might depend which period we're talking about - I've been looking at LNER era shots. I don't have that book but what may be the same photo is in the Gresley Society V2 Pictorial Supplement (approaching New Barnet, credited to J P Wilson and dated 16 July 1937). I think I can see the wagon you mean.
I found a better picture (Edit - found it, LNER 150 page 29, lower. Green Arrow again but in 1936) showing it to be a 4 wheel NER CCT of the type Roger Chivers used to do in 4mm. Mick built one some time ago:
I've found other pictures from the 1930s where it isn't in evidence; can your friend point us to more pictures where it is? If it's a common feature, my mate doing Grantham will want to know about it.

I've now joined the forum thanks to Silverlink posting the question on here.
NER CCT now building for the Scotch Goods rake.
Turns out I had the drawings all along in the afore mentioned Nick Campling book.

Duchesses are red, A4s are blue, 126 for the A4, Duchess couldn't do!

I saw this running at the NYMR LNER Gala last w/e on Mike's 'Scotch Goods' rake and have to say it looked stunning. Well done Mike keep up the good work.
