looking for a photo of 4472 rear view late 30's

Post by greenglade »

Hi guy's

Some time ago a kind soul ( not sure if this forum or another) scanned a picture for me of 4472 as she was after receiving her new stream lined high sided tender from a book. Alas just when i need it I can not find the image that I had saved.. sods law..lol
The reason I want it now is to answer a question on the tender buffer beam lining, according to the 'LNER locomotive and rolling stock liveries' web page it's listed just as 'Red' and indeed the latest A4 restorations are plain red. However there are many photo's from the 20's up to the end of the LNER days that clearly show the 3/4" black band with an inner 1/4" white band just the same as the front buffers are painted.

Is anyone here familiar with this image that I seek and if so would they be so kind as to post it here so that I can clarify this and finish painting my tender ready for re assembly.

kind regards

Pete

Without seeing the picture to which you refer, I can confirm that the rear buffer beam would have been lined as per the front with black buffer stocks also lined vermillion.

Thanks 2512.. I now have the picture thanks to the person who originally sent it... yes indeed it shows the buffer beam is lined.. in two minds over buffer stock colour... certainly all pictures show the loco as black ( except when in BR livery) but the tender is seen in both colours from different era's...In the 1936 photo although it's in black and white so not certain for sure but the buffers do look to be red more than black. Always difficult to tell depending on where the light is but the buffers have a lighter shade than the beam ( due to light) and most certainly a lot lighter than the triangle shape at the end of the beam which i know is black, for me that's good enough to say it's red.

regards

Pete
