A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUp5pzD7VlM
I just came across this on YouTube. It's the 2 exiled A4 locos (60008 Dwight D Einsenhower & 60010 Dominion of Canada) being prepared and placed in the ship that is to take them back home. You can really see how bad of a condition DoC has been kept in standing next to DDE. Just thought I'd share this.

Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
Thank you for the link to the video. It has been posted on other groups, but not on here, I believe.
This has already been done to death on here and elsewhere and we really don't need anyone else stirring it up. Can I suggest you read the already extensive thread on this subject and consider whether that kind of remark is in any way justified? You can really see how bad of a condition DoC has been kept in

At 16:55 in that video, either mist or smoke from the pusher vehicle makes it look like 60010 is in light steam

Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
All else aside, that's a very entertaining video. No doubt it'll surface with commentary added and further editing on a TV programme in the UK before too long. I would hope it might even be seen on this side of the pond at some point.
Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
Surely I'm not the only person who would like to see them (having had an inspection before hand,) being pulled to Shildon by Union of South Africa or Sir Nigel Gresley.

Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
Sorry jwealleans, I am new here however and haven't had the time to read all the post about DoC and DDE etc, just thought I'd post something about it. Only reason I said it was because it had been lined up besides DDE and you could compare the condition that both locomotives because they were stood next to each other. I was merely pointing it out. Once again my apologies.

Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
But yeah, just saying about the condition of both loco's standing next to each other. I feel like I can justify my remark by saying that whilst the 2 loco's were next to each other at that time, you can kind of see where I'm coming from can't you? Sorry that I'm carrying on with this, you're probably sick of some 17 year old kid who never got the chance to grow up with the opportunity's of most men who got to experience first hand the golden ages of steam. I won't say anymore on the subject matter, but if you can at least see where I'm coming from then that would mean a lot. Thanks.

Re: A4 VIDEO UPDATE!
I'd have to say 60010 looked in better condition, for one reason - the way 60008 was repainted by the yanks. The horrible green and those red buffer heads... yeeeuuuck!

Also the bright white connection rods, I didn't know that DDE had a re paint but I was confused about the red buffers on the tender too, also the British Railways logo looked very faded.

It hasn't been painted since 1966. You'd be a bit faded.
Read what has been said elsewhere about the conditions and circumstances in which she is stored. Then next time you go to a heritage railway, take a look at the rusty wrecks they all have hidden away somewhere and the state they're in. Most of them were in service or even built long after DoC went to the Colonies. We need to get our house in order before we can start to criticise others. In any case, it's very bad manners.
For what it's worth I don't remember even the end of steam although I did grow up working on preserved ones. It's hard, dirty and usually thankless work even if you have the people and resources to do it.

Those feeling strong enough to complain, should put their effort into donating to Exporail's fund raising efforts to restore DoC back to 1930s condition.

Ay up!
The problem insn't the shade. More like the valve gear, plus the inevitable fading on No 10.
However, nowt that a swift wave of a paint brush won't cure!
