Re: un-famous locomotives
Major magna has made a suggestion that i consider quite apt. the J27 and Q6 were virtually the last pre grouping locos at work on BR and probably could have soldiered on doing there duty for many more years after 1966/67.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

Hi WOOTANG,
The British area I am working on is only a small part of our huge club layout which also contains American, Australian and European sections. I’ve been working on the area for three years with a small crew of fellow modellers and while we still have lots to do the transformation has been quite dramatic. The Albion Junction MPD is the centre piece of the development and I have captured its progression over the years with 140 odd photographs on Photobucket. I have a great passion for LNER but have restricted my present collection to LNER heritage loco’s, coaches and wagons in mostly early BR. Still love the garter blue, apple green and teak though.
Unfortunately I don’t have any video on Youtube but hope to organise some soon.

Re: un-famous locomotives
Is it a cheat if I vote for a streamlined B17? (not a pacific, but basically a scaled-down A4!)
I agree that Green Arrow is too well known to be an un-famous loco, and would argue that to a non-LNER specific enthusiast it's probably better known than W1.
Digressing very slightly - I'm rather miffed that V2s & B1s don't survive in comparable numbers to Black 5s, as they were basically the LNER equivalents and it would be nice if they had a similar reputation instead of always being overshadowed by the latter.

Re: un-famous locomotives
Ay up, Marvin!
I reckon that, had another yard other than Woodham's looked at the economics of scrapping wagons v scrapping locos then we might well have had someone in the North hanging on to engines rather than smashing them as soon as they arrived.
OK - colours to the mast time, I prefer the Black 5 but I am rather partial to the B1 as well. Both did the same job equally well, although the B1 was in the Black 5's shadow all its working life.
Take heart on this one though. Which class 5 was the most efficient in the BR Exchanges? I'll give you a clue: it didn't have a taper boiler....

C13/14. They were probably the best atlantic tanks ever built. Even in the twilight of their years they could give a standard 4MT tank a run for the money anyday. A real shame one or more didn't survive as they would be ideal engines for todays preserved railways.
Its good to know where you stand. Saves making a fool of yourself later......

Re: un-famous locomotives
I think the C15/16 of the NBR could give yours a run coboman.

Re: un-famous locomotives
C15/16 & all the "Scott`s" for me.
memories of Thorton shed, St Margaret`s & Waverley late 40`s & 50`s come flooding back. I also loved the A1 & A4`s but there was something about those, dare I say it, lesser locos !!

Hi Blink Bonny & WOOTANG,
I thank you for the encouragement. While I have artistic freedom to build the MPD area of the clubs British section, it’s really a matter of improving the other existing area’s using and modifying what’s already there with an eye on a budget. Many of us buy a lot and donate it to the layout so it keeps us off the street. We are currently finishing off the new control boards and are soon to automate our Peco turntable, which from what I have researched, will be a challenge using the Expo motor etc. I’ve been so busy here I have neglected my own loco’s in the detailing stakes.
I really enjoy this Forum because I am learning so much from you all and continue to be amazed at what you chaps know and propagate. Being a student of history I feel it’s so important to collate the knowledge that exists here.
I am happy to post some more links to photographs should you be interested but perhaps in another thread?
Regards
Steve

Hi Guys,
I have re started on old thread I started some time ago on Model Railways.
I have provided some history and links to photographs of the layouts development since 2008. I will tease you with instalments of photos and I hope you find the thread interest worthy.

Steve
