60017 Elizabethan BTF
Does anyone know the exact condition 60017 Silver Fox was in during the filming of the BTF Elizabethan express film?
I'm looking specifically for the tender and nameplate colour
EDIT: Scratch that, I forgot I had Yeadon's. It's only the nameplate colour I'm looking for now

I think you will find that the nameplate background was black at that time.

Thanks
When funds are available I'll be replacing my old Hornby 60017 (R2266) with a TMC jobby
Well, I say replace, but I could never get rid of her

Re: 60017 Elizabethan BTF
Do we see 60800 come out in his true colours (wartime black)? I would have thought that somebody with his capabilities could rename and renumber a loco without having to recourse to having one's wallet stung with a TMC purchase, nice as they may be. I have always considered TMC and the like are there for those who do not have the skills?

Re: 60017 Elizabethan BTF
I'd be able to replace the nameplates and put an etched number plate on the smokebox, but I don't have the guts to get whatever is used to remove cabside numbers anywhere near a £110 loco
May I also point out that all my locos with etched nameplates (Mallard, Tornado and Blue Peter) have them blu-tacked on, becasue I'm useless with superglue
I'm not sure I'd be able to find the right variant of A4 either, whereas TMC have seemingly endless stocks so can mix and match

Blackout, buy yourself a copy of RCTS Locomotives of the LNER Part 2A. Then research your base model. Wait for the right one to come up on eBay. TMC will rename/renumber your supplied loco and you will have saved enough to make a healthy contribution to your next model. You'll also get a buzz from the "deal"!

G'Day Gents
Blackout, do not forgo the pleasure of using UHU, I made some Peco wagons up 44 years ago, and stuck the sides on with UHU,(cardboard to metal) and have only recently had to re-stick them, my A4's nameplate was stuck on with UHU back around 1980 and don't look like they are going to fall off in the foreseeable future.
All you have to do is scratch the back of the nameplate and a couple of small ones where you want to fix the plate, then add a little UHU and press, UHU takes a while to go hard, so you will have plenty of time to get it in the right position, and it won't damage the plate (unlike superglue).

Hi Blackout
To fix your nameplate, try PRIT
To renumber cabside Modelmasters do waterslide transfer of a green patch which you place over the old number, then put new number on top
Hope it helps

Thanks
I'll get some UHU for sticking my etched nameplates etc on.
The high likleyhood is that when I discover what base model is perfect (br green early crest, 1935 corridor tender, single blastpipe), I'll pick one up at Warley and drop it off with TMC.

Another means of attaching nameplates is using double sided Sellotape.

Re: 60017 Elizabethan BTF
Would that work with Mallard's record and works plates and 60009's Springbok plaque?
EDIT: Just thinking of the surface area of the adhesive on the tape, that's all

Re: 60017 Elizabethan BTF
Ay up!
I fix plates on with varnish, then spray the whole body once the fixing varnish has dried.
The "fix" can be anything, matt, gloss what have you. For the final coat, I normally use Precision aerosol varnish. This has successfully held all the 'plates on Mallard and Evening Star for about five years and has even resisted an attempt to remove them with a fingernail by someone who shall remain nameless.
I'll dig one of 'em out and post a piccie.

If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
