Just started building a model of New Monckton Colliery, gas works, canal basin, etc, in the period around 1935. Its in South Yorkshire, at Royston, near Barnsley.
I'm wondering whether anyone is able to give me info on locos used to shunt the yard, liveries, etc. I've lots of pics fom the local Royston historical society, but only in black & white, and none with locos before 1950. No one left in the village from that time can remember what colour anything was painted (except black and mucky!). Altho the line is an LNER branch, there were also connections to LMS (actually, the most well used) and GCR. Would New Mockton Colliery Ltd have owned the track etc in the yard, with railway co's owning track up to the colliery boundary? Would the locos also be privately owned?
Thanks very much for reading this and hopefully giving me your thoughts.
Rick.

'Monckton' is one of the locos up at Embsay, I don't know much about it as industrial locos aren't an interest of mine, but if you have a look on the web-site, you may find some information and leads.

Thanks, yes, I'd found that also, but unfortunately its a bit modern for a 1935 layout.
