In 'Appendix A' of "The Book of the A1 and A2 Pacifics", Peter Coster states in respect of Meg Merrilies (60115) -- "Doncaster Works No 2032, but actually carried 2026."
I'm a little bemused by the thinking behind this, as Haymarket's Peppercorn A2 Hornets Beauty (60535) also carried the Doncaster works plate with the number 2026.
Since Meg Merrilies was a frequent visitor to Haymarket there must have been many occasions when both locos shared the same rails or sat close to each other while both boasting the same works number!
. . . any thoughts as to why this situation existed ???

Ay up!
What were their respective build dates? Could be that the Works numbers were allocated but some twonk screwed the wrong plate on the wrong engine.

I've gone right through the appendices and it appears that Meg Merrilies was the only one of the A1s & A2s to befall that kind of "twonking" !
