1948 experimental coach liveries

Post by robertcwp »

Following the mention of the BR coaching stock livery experiments in 1948 on the thread about the Shipley MRS layout Leicester South GC (see here), I went back to some notes I wrote a while back about this trial and have updated them - see link below. They cover all regions and are largely a summary of what I could find in contemporary journals and other articles, plus photographic references. The experiment seems to have been a waste of time as the livery BR adopted in 1949, ie crimson and cream, was not one of those tried out in 1948. However, some vehicles retained their experimental liveries well into the 1950s.

I have just uploaded a slightly amended version but the link should still work.

The liveried sets that worked on the Great Eastern section plus the Leeds-Glasgow set seem to have gone virtually unrecorded so any additional information would be most welcome.
