Post by brsince78 »

This link was posted earlier today on the the National Preservation forum:-

I assume from the title that at least one more part of this Australian programme will follow?

Great film. Seems like the 1980's was a good decade for preserved steam.

When I click on the two addresses given above a notice comes up to say "This video has been removed by the user". So I am not able to see these videos, much to my regret. Does everybody have the same problem in this respect?

That normally indicates a copyright claim has been made against the videos in question, and rather than have them a) show adverts for the copyright holder to earn off, or b) have them removed as infringements by Youtube, thus creating marks against one's account, the Youtube user has chosen option c) and deleted them his or herself.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see this footage either.
When the 4472 came to Adelaide in 1989 I was a 15 year old cadet in the Country Fire Service at Two Wells. 4472 did a number of trips around the Adelaide standard gauge network including a few to Two Wells. Our job was to top it up with water from the fire trucks and a few of us were able to get a free trip back to Keswick terminal including some parrallel runing with SAR 621 (on broad gauge) Through Salisbury, Dry Creek, Islington, North Adelaide and Mile End.

Here is a link to a local railway photography site with some photos of 4472 in SA towards the bottom.

What's the provenance of the shark nose streamliner in some of the earlier piccies?

A very impressive looking beastie...

G'Day Gents

Ahh! BB you've just found the SAR class 520's wonderful engines, built during the Second World War, for use on 'Secondary' lines because of there low axle weight ( I think only 18 tons) but weighted in at around 180-200 tons, they were also used after the war on Express passenger trains almost to the end of steam in South Australia.

Here's a couple of pics.

Not unlike Stanier's first draft for the Duchesses.

Very impressive indeed. And that's a lightweight?
