A4's in Apple green

Post by Stirling Single »

How many A4's carried Apple Green livery and for how long?

Were there any variants to the front of the A4's being in black as I have seen in models?

There were only ever nine green A4s, 4482-7 and the livery only lasted from build for up to a year when they were all repainted garter blue.

4483-7 were painted black back to the first boiler band, whilst 4482 had the parabolic curve.

4482 Golden Eagle

4483 Kingfisher

4484 Falcon

4485 Kestrel

4486 Merlin

4487 Sea Eagle

Hornby did 4482 in the old TD version, and Bachmann also.

Hornby also planned to do Sea Eagle (TD) but it never appeared.

4493 Woodcock

4494 Osprey

4495 Great Snipe

Plus

4493, 4494 and for a short time 4495. The last three with the curved smokebox parabola similar to but not quite the same as 4482.

Dates in RCTS Green Vol 2A.
