44911 was the last numerically of the 1945-6 batch built at Crewe. The Black Fives were of course always black apart from 4762,4763 and 4764 in experimental SR, LNER and GWR greens in 1948. 44911 was given its BR number in April 1949. The tender No. 10536) was of combined rivetted and welded construction.

Thats very interesting 50C, thank you for the information.I am unable at present to get access to my "Steam Worlds" so I wonder if you have a scanner and would then be prepared to e-mail me it if I PM you my e-mail address.50C wrote:Just been looking through some old railway mags and in Steam World(Feb 2001) there is a photo of 44911 piloting 67785 on the 4.21pm to Royston just about to leave KX on August 31 1956.

I have bitten the Bullett and purchased a Finescale Brass "O" Gauge model that was lined and numbered by Steve Barnfield.
Will upload a photo in the next couple of days. Superb workmanship and runs like a dream.
Regards.

many thanks for the information,I will definately post some pictures of the Model and perhaps you will be able to advise on the accuracy of the Tender. I am sure as an expert on painting that you will agree with me that Steve has made a fine job of finishing her off.
Kind Regards,Derek.

A little sorting out is needed here - The Stanier 2 cylinder class fives were always black and the 5XP three cylinder Jubilees started out in red, but were black post 1945 and later BR Brunswick Green. No Class five was ever red in service and the model makers have been guilty of misleading the unknowing in producing models of same in red, which results in people thinking that they were red at some time.
A little knowlege is a dangerous thing!
Ask and it shall be given unto you.

Thanks for your kind words.Blink Bonny wrote:Guy, your 5 is wonderful!
All the credit must go to John Riley (Finescale Brass) and Steve Barnfield. In actual fact my snaps do not do it justice.
Best of all it (the real 44911) spent 14 months at 34A Top Shed cos my Old Dad worked on it there as a Fitter.
