Yarmouth Southtown MPD and Carriage Workings . . .

Post by tommyg1992 »

Im modeling Yarmouth MPD

to do this i require the locomotive allocation from 1955

and the carriage workings for normal services and the Easterling which ran between Yarmouth Southtown and London via beccles

I have been reading The District Controller's View No 12 the MGN, but this only covers Yarmouth Beach

any book suggestions/ websites would be ever so helpful

thanks Tom

From 1.57 to closure in 11.59 the following were allocated for various periods: 61223, 61602, 61622, 61659, 61664, 61665, 61957, 61989, 62544, 62546, 62570, 62604, 62611, 65472, 67366, 67702, 67706, 67728, 67736, 67786, 68625, 68628, 68656, 69679, 69689, 69696, 69708, 70002, 70012, 70030.

If you want dates the above comes from B. R. Steam Shed Allocations Part Four. Xpress Publishing The Xpress Locomotive Register Volume 3 ISBN 1-901056-12-0 £15.95 gives every 6xxxx loco and "4s", "7s" & "9s" allocated to ex LNER sheds from 1950 to 1960 on a loco by loco rather than depot basis.

I don't have Summer 1955 but in Summer 1954 The Easterling was as follows:

11.03 SX, 10.33 SO from Liverpool Street

Yarmouth South Town:
BTK(3) 30t
2 TK(8) 34t
CK(2 1/2-5) 34t
CK(3 1/2-4) 34t
RF(20)* 30t
TO(39)* 25t

Lowestoft Central:
CK(2 1/2-5) 34t
BTK(5) 30t
TK(8) Saturdays Only 34t

(3) etc indicates number of compartments (first-third) for composites - note half-compartments in composites, which were either two and a half first and five third or three and a half first and four third. 30t etc indicates tare weight in tons. * indicates dining seating not counted in train totals. The RF and TO were probably GER designs. The remainder of the train was Gresley stock. The train ran only during the Summer timetable.

just a quick question if we took the allocation date back to say 1955 do you think the B1s would of prob been B12s?

From 1951 to 1955 there were 7 B12's based at Southtown(at different times) and 61540 appeared in Jan 57 until withdrawn in Oct of that year.Another B1, 61042, was there for one month in early 1957.
