Can someone please tell me where I may find information concerning the details of carriage roof destination boards, especially in the period 1947 - 1957:
a. sizes
b. when did they cease to be used ?
c. also the named train boards, (not headboards, of which I have information).
Thanks in advance,
gresley

Re: Carriage roof Destination Boards
I'ld suggest "search engine" at the NRM.
I know that there are quite a few roof boards in 'the warehouse' displays. (last time I was there I got a crick in the neck trying to read them!)

Re: Carriage roof Destination Boards
The length of the destination board (on the cant rail) is 2'-8½" I will keep looking through my info to see if I have a depth.
The size of the 3 roof lable boards are 8'-0" long x 7" deep x 5/8" thick.
These dims are taken from GA drwg 5521N (1st class brake 1927)
I hope that helps.

And to muddy the waters a little!
The Welsh Highland Railway still use them......
at least I think that is what I saw on my last visit, a little while ago.
