Blue A3’s and A4’s

Post by Steve05 »

This question is motivated by a posting in another Forum. It interested me from the perspective I quite like the colour and was considering changing several of my older RTR A3 loco’s to blue. How many A3’s were painted Blue in BR days? Which A3 loco’s received the treatment and for what period before going green?

I read somewhere that all A4’s were painted blue at their Overhauls or Heavy Immediate Repair by December 1950 with the average time in this colour being a bit over 12 months?

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Steve,

hope this table helps. It's a quick cut and paste from 2 Isinglass drawings (328 and 333) which contain this and a lot more info. Sorry for the format but it's quicker than retyping it!

Hi 2562,

I thank you very much for the info, I would not have guessed so many were painted blue. It's a great bit of knowledge.

Regards

Steve
