I'M after some information on the above loco, mainly the withdrawal date, I do have a BR number for her! 62849, so she seems to have made it to 1948, but did she ever carry it. Thanks guys

Re: C1 Atlantic 4419
According to Longworth (BR Steam Locos 1948-68) - not an infallible source - it was withdrawn in 7/48 but not scrapped until 7/53. It was the only one to receive a Pacific cab (side windows) and also had a booster from 1923(?) until 1935. It was allocated to Ardsley at nationalisation.

Thanks for the very prompt reply, and just what I needed to know, thank you. Very doubtful it ever carried it's BR number, but I am surprised that it sat around Doncaster for so long, seeing that steel was in short supply just after the end of WW 2, I can't believe they would keep it for so long for spare parts ??
Thanks again

As an aside - Casserley and Asher say just two C1s actually received their British Railways numbers - 62822 and another one - they don't specifiy what the other one was.
If you can believe one source - though I've found many current sources contain any number of disappointing flaws to my personal knowledge* - 17 of the class were taken over by BR and 5 of these were not officially withdrawn until 1950.
*Wasn't it Henry Ford who said 'History is bunk!'? I am now old enough to know there is some truth to this.
Fact nowadays is whatever you can get people to believe - even if it takes a little armwaving, stridency and effected outrage at being so impertinently contradicted.
