Hi,
Anybody know whether or not J39 tender wheels were spoked or not?
Regards,

Re: LNER J39 Tender wheels
Does it depend upon which tenders we are talking about, 3500 or 4200 gal, flared or straight sides, low or high front, ex NE tenders of different ages and capacities etc?

Hi,
J39/2, standard LNER tender as attached to 64967. Most standard tenders appear to have spoked wheels but I am checking to be sure!
Cheers,
Hugh

Re: LNER J39 Tender wheels
Ah but that was Atlantic 3279's point - there is no such animal as a standard LNER tender; there were several different types, with variations, within the Group Standards. J39/1 usually 3,500 gal., J39/2 usually 4200 gal., J39/3 yer takes yer pick. John Edgson's 4200gal. GS tender drawing states 3' 9" dia. disc or spoked for two of the three types (2. low and 3. high front, not 1. flared coping) - find a photo of your loco and check underneath the tender attached to it...hugh williams wrote:J39/2, standard LNER tender as attached to 64967.
