I am wondering if anybody has any photos of our Gresley mess coach actually in service.
It was built as 10178 in 1924 at York.
With 2 3rd and 2 1st compartments with guards van.
Initially introduced in the Flying Scotsman set renumbered as 1077 then transferred to the GC mid 30s.
Withdrawn in 1958 and converted to a riding and tool van. ADE 320427
Allocations at Starbeck, Blaydon then Tyne Dock.
Withdrawn from Blyth numbered as 0411469
Any detail would be welcomed from any period in its service life.
Currently it is sat in the dry in our shed at Newbridge NYMR awaiting the day when we start the process of reawakening it.
We believe it still has one of its compartments as last in passenger service. the remainder have been modified.
We also think it is actually unique.
It being the only vehicle we know of with an AGA type stove in the galley. (We installed this )

Re: Gresley BCK
I cannot give exact dates but the numbering for this vehicle was as follows:
10178J for a short time then 1077
Tfr to GC section as 52181 about 1938
renumbered by LNER to 10021 in 1946/7
Service stock as quoted.
The photo shows that at some time the buffers were changed from oval to clipped round.

Re: Gresley BCK
there is a very similar vehicle at the Colne Valley and it is in the same pink (faded red?)
don't forget about the Great Eastern Railway
