Query on Departmental Coach at York

Post by Bryan »

I just unearthed this photo taken by me in York sometime in the 80 - 90s.
It looks like number 320275 but not sure.
Can anyone fill in any more detail?
Has it survived?

By strange coincidence I have some photos taken some time ago of probably the same vehicle. My photos show it as 320274.

I can believe it to be 274 its just the last figure is a bit indistinct.
There is also a reach wagon coupled next to it.
Will post photo later.

Dear Sirs, is the coach in question an old Brake Composite Toilet (BCL) Jim Brodie.

Jim may be on to something. It looks remarkably similar to a former GNR Dia. 274 Lavatory Brake Third, built Doncaster 1907.

It is an ex GN 58' semi corridor brake, and I should be able to identify it from the service stock list - if I can find it!

I believe it was broken up a couple of years and burned but I think the bogies were saved by an RPS.
