Spearmint decorated

Post by 52D »

Hi in this Bruce McCartney pic of SPEARMINT complete with Toram Beg the steampipes are an unusual colour, have they been burnished or painted silver. My thinking they are painted silver to match the headboards sentiments can anyone remember seeing this pic earlier to confirm,

It's obviously hard to tell from a monochrome image, but I would have interpreted the lighter tone of the curved surfaces of the steampipes as merely being a heightened reflection from a curved shiny (black?) surface. I could of course be completely wrong. Are there any views of the loco from other angles?

That was an initial thought but it appears both steampipes are the same shade and if it was reflections or a trick of the light i dont think we would see it on both sides, although the cylinder tops do appear light coloured as well.

I would tend to agree with Graeme. The buffer beam looks too scruffy for the loco to have been given any special treatment, and painting of the steam pipes would be a unique anyway.
