D175 roof details

Post by gdb »

I have searched the internet for photos of this diagram and almost all of the search engine returns are of the restored example no. 24068 on the Severn Valley. As all of the exterior views are from ground level then those photos are rather short on roof detail. There are two areas of the roof detail in which I am interested - for a 7mm model which is being built from a kit - and I hope that someone has a photo to clarify the following:-

[1] where are the water tank filler and torpedo vent for the end toilet compartment in relation to the coach centre line and the adjacent compartment wall? Or do I use placing and dimensions from a similar sized toilet compartment of the D115 diagram? (courtesy of Mike Trice).

[2] where are the water tank filler and torpedo vent for the mid-coach toilet compartment in relation to the coach centre line and the adjacent compartment wall? Whilst placing the filler and vent on the centre line seems a reasonable supposition given the depth of the compartment I have no idea as to the placement along the coach.

Coach 24068 appears in the list of the SVR Teak coaches - how does one contact the LNER SVR Fund?

thank you for any assistance which you can offer, Graham Beare

Thanks to Richard Carr for the picture below which shows the guard's end of no. 24068 and fortuitously this picture includes the roof detail for the toilet compartment.

Assuming that I am reading things correctly, the roof details for the toilet compartment between the first class compartment and the luggage area are:-

* left - overflow / vent pipe;
* middle - water tank filler;
* right - torpedo ventilator.

Again thanks to Richard for this view of the Teak set, from the footbridge at Bridgnorth, which shows the roofs of the coaches. D175 no. 24068 is the second coach beyond the buffet (which is in the foreground).

This image seems to put the water tank filler and torpedo vent on the centre line with the overflow / vent pipe some way off towards the compartment side of the coach.

Now to resolve the roof details of the toilet compartment beyond the third class compartments.
