Engineers Saloon 853

Post by Bryan »

As part of a dejunking excercise, I unearthed a box with various bits in it and an oilcan with a Brass plate on it stating Engineers Saloon No 853.

Any ideas as to what it was and where based and when.
I suspect an S+T connnection knowing who may have aquired it many years ago.

I have received word from the Tanfield that one of their vehicles was the Saloon in question.
"We've got NER 853 which is an ex engineers saloon running at Tanfied, it was grounded at Poppleton prior to preservation."

But no more detail.
Does anyone know more of it's history or allocations?

It is similar to this one

853/902178 and 241/900269 Were respectively the Newcastle and York District Engineer's Saloons. The diagrams look to be the same design, but who knows how they differed over their lifetimes.
