A4, P2, W1 front end design

Post by Ted »

I've been trying and failing to find accurate information and drawings of Gresley's front end design for the A4's and the redesigned W1/P2's. I've seen mention of a 14' v 12' radius front curve mistake, but nothing else. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Ted, welcome to the forum.

Issinglass Drawings catalogue number 223 drawing number 316 A4 Gresley 4-6-2 Streamlined Pacific locomotive details has a side view with the various curves shown on it. It also shows dimensioned side views of single and double chimneys, plus the frames (without dimensions).

I would suggest that you get it's companion drawing number315 at the same time as this shows side, top, front & rear views of the locomotive and tenders in original form.

There are also drawings of the P2 and W1 available.

The cost for each drawing in 4mm scale is £9 plus £4 postage.

Hope this is of help.

Alan

hi Ted

have you taken a look at the samples shown on the NRM site in the 'Doncaster works' page, they are fairly small but may be of help identifying what you need and large copies can be ordered. Here's a link to one of the drawings.... http://www.nrm.org.uk/NRM/ResearchAndAr ... bjid=I-627

cheers

Thank you for the suggestions. That NRM one is perfect.

The NRM shop is also offering a copy of the A4 'Mallard' drawing for £8: https://www.nrmshop.co.uk/heritage_rail ... rawing.htm
