Gresley V2 4780

Can anyone help me please with the details of the what the above train's livery colours would be when it first went into service in August 1937.

A good search on here (and generally on the web) should give you quite a lot of information. There is a lot of discussion on livery and details.
The link here ... here... is a good place to start.

Since in 1937 the V2s were painted in standard LNER Green, any differences in detail would depend on which works (Doncaster or Darlington) was the builder.
4780 was built at Darlington, so would probably have had green cylinder covers.

There is already a separate thread for the nameplate colours of 4780 in this forum.

(Without wishing to seem condescending, most people on here would probably be happier if you were to refer to a 'locomotive' or an 'engine', rather than a 'train'!)

By the same token apparently so story goes Darlington [North Road] used a slightly different shade of LNER Green to that used at/by Doncaster [the Plant]. How trues or other wise the story is I don't know.........

A point about 4780 that is often overlooked is that it was originally fitted with a low front tender.

The high front version started with 4791.

It's the GS 4200 tender with flush sides and a low front as fitted to several classes, J39, K3, D49,O2/3, B17 etc.
There are pics in the green book, and Yeadon.
The pic of 4771 in the LNER info Locomotives show the tender.
I don't have any pics that I could scan.
