First Class Antimacassars - circa 1945

Post by gdb »

What was the appearance of antimacassars in first class compartments between end of WW2 and nationalisation?

Here are two photographs for comment:-

Questions?

a) size and colour of material (white... cream... )
b) size, shape and colour of LNER logo;
c) style / font for lettering.

thank you, Graham

Surely the answer to C would be the standard LNER font of Gill Sans?

I don't know how to do links, but...
If you go to Severn valley Railway Charitable Trust (either direct or via the SVR website) you will see that they have had replica antimacassars made for their LNER coaches, and there's interior photos of 7960, the restaurant composite, showing them. I suggest you contact them - someone named Richard Hill is helpful - as they will have full details. But they would probably like a donation...
