hI, a good site, or will be. It looks in its infancy but will probably grow to be a great site. Could not find anything on TANHOUSE LANE and as it was a sub-shed of BRUNSWICK I tried there but there was only information on shed codes, in 1948 LIV and from 1949 to 1955 8E and after that 27F.

Sub shed didn't usually have a fixed allocation. Suitable locos were send out from main shed, sometimes in rotation and sometimes on an ad hoc basis.

Hi Bill, done some asking of ex railway man I know and he confirms that, he told me that in the 50,s men were drafted in from all over, as and when needed. Widnes, Brunswick and even Trafford Park and was the same with the loco,s especially on the LNE side, the LMS side seems to have been fairly constant with one or two 3F 0-6-0.s in residence. He remembers working on J67,S and J 69,s one numbered 68547, I do not know which and J10,s. When the shed closed there were two J10,s No,s 65157 and 65195 and two 3F,s No,s 47616 and 47490 which were transferred to Widnes 8D, the J 10,s were re-allocated to Springs Branch shortly afterwards but the 3F,s remained at Widnes 8D until that shed closed

If it helps, Brunswick shed had an allocation of 41 on 1/1/48, comprising 1 B9, 13 D9s, 2 D10s, 8 J10s, 5 J11s, 2 J39s, 2 F1s, 2 J67/69s and 6 N5s. This was down from 54 on 1/1/23.

Sources: Banks - BR Locos 1948 - OPC
Yeadon - LNER Loco Allocations 1/1/23 - Challenger

Btw, some sub-sheds DID have their own allocations, especially ex-NER depots.
